RFA 40 Battery

My grandfather served in the Royal Field Artillery during World War One. He was assigned to the 43rd Brigade, 1st Division.

At the age of 18 Frederick G Coxen joined the RFA in 1905 and after 6 years he transferred to the reserves. He remained in the reserves until August 1914 when he was called to active duty.

I'm very fortunate because my grandfather kept a war journal and four years ago I was given this document. I spent four years researching aspects of some of the journal entries that resulted in a compelling book titled The Great Promise If you want to relive what it was like to serve in the RFA during the early years of the war, this book pulls no punches and truly describes the realities of the Great War.
